Painting of an angel

Birthday cake decorated with artist’s own work

It’s a special day next week. On Wednesday 28 August it will be 180th birthday of Pre-Raphaelite artist, Edward Burne-Jones, and we’re celebrating in style at the Lady Lever Art Gallery, with a giant birthday cake for our visitors!

The cake will feature ‘Angel playing a Flageolet’, a classic example of Burne-Jones’ work from National Museums Liverpool’s Pre-Raphaelite collection.

The vivid colours and elegant composition of the painting will be transferred onto the cake for this special occasion. So not only will it taste good but it will look pretty fabulous too!

Make sure you drop by and help yourself to cake before it all goes and don’t forget to call into our exhibition ‘The Drawings of Edward Burne-Jones: A Pre-Raphaelite Master’.

  1. Edward Palumbo says:

My birthday is Aug. 27 so I feel a kinship with Burne-Jones. I would love to see a photo of the birthday cake. What a fine Idea.
