Top ten Christmas gifts

13 December 2013 by Lisa

Christmas mugs in shop display

Can you hear a distant rumble and clatter in the background as you walk down the high street?

No, it’s not Santa coming early with his sleigh and reindeer – it’s the sound of Christmas shoppers starting to descend on the city!

But there’s no need to panic and get carried along with the crowd to all the ‘usual shops’ – let us help you to find something a little bit different.

You can either browse in one of the shops at our museums or galleries, or put your feet up at home and check out our online shop instead.

Remember to order from our online shop by 18 December to make sure you get your goodies in time for Christmas!

To give you some ideas, here’s our list of top ten Christmas gifts for this year…

For epic explorers:

This nifty leather map wallet has a world map printed on the inside and comes in a handy little gift tin. Great for those intrepid voyages to the supermarket on Christmas Eve.  Wallet with map design

For foodies:

Our foodie gift sets are sure to add flavour to your Christmas left-overs. Prepared by Ben, our award winning Head Chef, the set contains our favourite homemade  condiments, including brown sauce, piccalilli and red onion chutney.  Available to buy online or at Maritime Dining Rooms.

For every scouser:

A perfect gift for the scouser in your life, our Scouse ‘Soft lad’ mug  has ‘Are eh’ on the other side and definitely captures the unique humour of our city!

For afternoon tea lovers:

The forest friends range of ceramics in our shop include forest creatures such as festive deer, which adorn plates, mugs, egg cups and an espresso set. Perfect for serving up warming hot chocolate and a slice of cake.

For home birds:

Snuggle up on the sofa this winter with a cosy owl cushion. This ditsy floral cushion will add a touch of  vintage-style charm to any home.

Embroidered owl cushionFor uptown girls:

They say that you can never have too many handbags! Our pretty ‘In a Nutshell’ satchel is definitely one to add to your wish list, with its woodland design and turquoise and cream spotty pouches.

For art buffs:

To accompany our David Hockney exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery, we have lots of  books and gifts inspired by this iconic artist. Get your hands on ‘cheeky’ prints, mugs and magnets featuring the famous ‘Peter Getting out of Nick’s Pool’ painting, exclusively available at the Walker Art Gallery and online.

For hopeless romantics:

Our art galleries hold some of the finest works by the Pre-Raphaelite artists. As William Morris had artistic partnerships with both Burne-Jones and Rossetti, these William Morris-inspired gifts are perfect for fans of the Pre-Raphaelites.   This romantic range features daffodil, bluebell and golden lily prints by Morris.

For rainy days:

Rain, wind, sleet or snow – who knows what weather we’ll get over the festive season, but these jigsaws featuring iconic Beatles album covers should keep the family entertained for a while! Choose from Abbey Road or Sgt. Pepper .
