Our 2015 advent calendar

One of my favourite Christmas traditions each year is the launch of the National Museums Liverpool advent calendar, so I’m thrilled to say that there’s just hours to go until you can open the first door.

Our theme for this year’s advent calendar is childhood and our Christmas elves (or curators, as they keep insisting that I call them) have really outdone themselves finding lots of fantastic surprises from our collections and displays for you to discover behind each door.

As always, I’m not going to spoil any surprises by giving away what’s in store. However I do think there’s something for everyone in there, including fine and decorative art, social and maritime history.  Hidden behind the doors are glimpses of Liverpool childhoods long ago, as well as more recent memories of Christmas treats that you may remember receiving as presents when you were young. There’s even a special preview of one of our upcoming exhibitions for 2016.

All this is waiting for you in December behind the doors of our lovely twinkly advent calendar, which makes me feel festive just looking at it. So make sure you check it out at www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/advent – but remember, no peeking!
