Seasonal selfies with George the penguin

15 December 2016 by Andrew Bullock

George with the Jacks of Frost stilt walkersHave you met George the penguin at the Lady Lever Art Gallery? George is currently donning his festive garb and greeting our visitors throughout the Christmas period.

He loves to dress up and over the years has wowed visitors with many different costumes including an Olympic and a para Olympic athlete, St. George,  Frankenstein, the Easter Bunny, the Queen (for the Royal Wedding) and his latest costume, which is a Christmas Dickensian character.

George joined the Lady Lever team in 2010 when Phil Redmond bought him for the gallery at the Go Penguins Charity Auction. He was one of 132 penguins which were sold in aid of the World Wildlife Fund.

Staff at Lady Lever gave George his name because he came to live in the gallery on St. Georges Day.

George is not shy at all and loves having his picture taken, so please feel free to pop in and get your holiday season selfie with him. He will be in the gallery up until the end of December but is sure to return in the near future.

Check out our Christmas opening times.
