Lord Mayor is a House of Memories ‘Buddy’

Ahead of our new ‘Buddy’ programme, which begins at the Museum of Liverpool next week, The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Erica Kemp, has shared with us her personal experiences of dementia, and how House of Memories can help:

“One of the charities I have chosen to support during my year as Lord Mayor is the Alzheimer’s Society. So, when I became Lord Mayor I took myself along to the Museum of Liverpool to meet Carol Rogers and learn more about the House of Memories dementia awareness programme. It was an amazing visit and I learned so much about what the Museum is doing to not only support those who have had a diagnosis of dementia but those who support them.

Dementia app wins top European award

We had some fantastic news yesterday, when we were told that we had won a European award for the work we’re doing to help people living with dementia.

Our ‘My House of Memories’ digital app was one of three European projects to be shortlisted for the Innovate Dementia Award, which was announced yesterday at the World Health and Design Forum in Eindhoven.  Read more…

Dementia Awareness Week has been incredibly exciting so far, with lots of brilliant work going on in the city, not least the launch of the new Liverpool Dementia Action Alliance.

In London, there was also the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friendly Community Awards where House of Memories was Highly Commended in the national category – this is a fantastic accolade and we are really thrilled.  Read more…

Award winning House of Memories

We are very pleased to announce that National Museums Liverpool’s House of Memories programme won in the Educational Initiative category last night at the Museums & Heritage Awards for Excellence.

To date, we have trained more than 5,000 carers across Merseyside, the North and Midlands, on our dementia awareness training days, which have been running since 2012.  Read more…

House of Memories in the Midlands

This time last year, the House of Memories dementia awareness programme went on the road to Sunderland, Bury and Salford, and it was fantastic to be able to share this innovative approach with fellow museums and galleries. September is World Alzheimer’s Month, with many organisations also marking Saturday 21 September, World Alzheimer’s Day, to shine a global spotlight on the fight against the disease. The theme this year is ‘Dementia – a journey of caring’, an idea which resonates very strongly with the House of Memories dementia awareness training at the Museum of Liverpool.
