Last week a special fundraising dinner was held at the Museum of Liverpool, giving guests a unique preview of the interior space before any of the displays are installed.
The evening was also attended by a goddess, several penguins, a few vehicles, some works of art and a whole flock of superlambananas. These items, which are mainly from National Museums Liverpool’s collections, although the superlambananas were on loan, were put on temporary display for the evening to give a taster of the wide variety of objects that will go on display in the new museum when it opens in 2011.

Just a quick message to say “Merry Christmas, one and all” – hope you get what you deserve – and to remind you that all of our venues are open over the Christmas period (excluding Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and closing at 2pm on Christmas Eve).

The shops and streets may have been full of Christmas decorations for weeks, but I never feel right mentioning it until December. Now that the last month of the year has arrived though there’ll be no stopping me.
This year there’s so much going on in our venues that we’ve created a whole new section just about Christmas at National Museums Liverpool. This includes all of the free things to do in our venues, including Go Penguins! and other Christmas events and activities. Read more…

Those of you who live locally might already have heard about the imminent arrival of over 100 penguins to the streets and venues of Liverpool. Go Penguins! launches on 22 November, and National Museums Liverpool is providing homes for 13 of the happy but slightly homesick birds. They include ‘Moon Waddler’, aka Neil Flipstrong, at World Museum, while the Maritime is hosting ‘Under the Sea’ penguin. This photograph was taken at the secret penguin storage facility and shows another of our arrivals, ‘Look at Me’ (front left) along with some of his feathered friends. Read more…
