Here’s Sarah Houghton from our membership team to tell us about a recent special event for the ‘Turner: travels, light and landscape’ exhibition at the Lady Lever Art Gallery:
I always enjoy all the buzz around a new exhibition opening. It’s a chance to invite our National Museums Liverpool members along, so they can enjoy an exclusive look at the new exhibition and see for themselves how their money is being used. World-class exhibitions being just one important area. I was pleased to meet some of our members last week at a special evening event to coincide with the opening of the new Turner exhibition. Matt Dunn, Fundraising and Membership Officer, writes about a very different type of New Year…
Happy New Year! There may not be any fireworks or Auld Lang Syne but here at National Museums Liverpool we’re celebrating the start of our membership year.
Over the next 12 months we’ve lined up a great programme of adult and family events where we’ll be opening the doors to our museums and galleries just to members.
Our adult events offer unrivalled opportunities to enjoy new exhibitions or talks from guest speakers outside public opening hours whilst family members explore our museums and take part in specially-arranged activities during our themed event evenings. Read more…

Our Fundraising and Membership Officer Matt Dunn writes:
With the Museum of Liverpool now welcoming thousands of people through its doors each day, it’s been a busy and exhilarating time for staff and visitors alike. Along with a team of fantastic, dedicated volunteers, I spent some time at the Museum promoting our membership scheme during the opening week and if you were there, we probably saw you!
We were delighted that people visited our table to sign up as members, and were especially pleased that this included lots of families taking advantage of our special rate of £20. This price includes free, unlimited visits to the upcoming Age of the Dinosaur exhibition at World Museum opening on 22 October, featuring six life-like animatronic dinosaurs! A family ticket will normally cost £14 per visit so it really is a top deal but don’t worry if you missed us – visit our membership page and you can still sign up. Read more…

Those who have joined our membership scheme often get the chance to experience exclusive events at our venues. Here is a review of one such event by members Gordon Collinson and Anne Roberts:
We are members of the National Museums Liverpool membership scheme and attended Christopher Wright’s talk entitled, ‘A Collector’s Eye – Cranach to Pissarro’, at the Walker Art Gallery. We certainly had our cultural palates stimulated to an unprecedented degree.
The evening got off to a good start with a welcoming complimentary drink in the gallery café, which always gets people into a receptive mood! We then went into the exhibition space where we were welcomed by Sandra Penketh, who gave us a very good introduction to the talk and our invited speaker. Read more…

Here’s Sarah Houghton our Fundraising & Membership Officer to tell us about a unique members’ event that happened earlier this month:
At the beginning of the month our members’ were given the exciting opportunity to meet and hear from Alexandra Shackleton, granddaughter of the famous explorer Ernest Shackleton.
Not only did Alexandra give the members a fantastic insight into her grandfather’s character and numerous expeditions but she also talked about the journeys she had made too, many in memory of the great Ernest Shackleton. Alexandra also made time to sign books that the members had bought on Shackleton. This was a lovely ending to a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
The visit was inspired by the latest exhibition at the Merseyside Maritime Museum; Endurance Shackleton’s Antarctic Adventure. This moving exhibition tells the epic story of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s 1914 Endurance expedition – an incredible real life tale of survival.
This was another great event for our members to enjoy all free of charge as part of their benefits package. For more information on how you can become a member and take part in our fantastic events along with many other exciting benefits call our Membership Officer on 0151 478 4157 or visit our membership web page.
