If you stand looking out of the south doors of the Lady Lever Art Gallery you take in a stunning vista from the nearby fountain, through the rose gardens, towards the Port Sunlight War Memorial. Originally these doors are where you would have entered the gallery and one of the things we wanted to do as part of the South End redevelopment was to restore this view.  When the new galleries open in spring 2016 a new pair of glass doors will allow visitors to gaze out upon the village, helping those within the Lady Lever to connect with her beautiful surroundings. The South End development project at the Lady Lever Art Gallery isn’t just about the incredible restoration and conservation of the galleries, but also about developing relationships with local schools and community groups. As part of the project, year 10 students from Prenton High School for Girls recently reinterpreted Wedgwood pottery from the Gallery’s collections in the form of miniature porcelain sculptures. Their tiny creations will be used as part of the new displays in the South End, bringing a fresh perspective to our displays when they reopen next year.  Read more…

Our Design team are working hard behind the scenes to bring together ideas from curators and feedback from you (our visitors!) to create fantastic designs for the new ‘south end’ galleries at the Lady Lever.

The galleries will be brought back to their original architectural design and more than 1,500 items of fine and decorative art will be redisplayed.  Read more…

I always enjoy the chance to work with our visitors to find out what they really think about what we’re doing in our museums and galleries. Recently I’ve been working on some consultation projects at the Lady Lever Art Gallery, where I’ve had the chance to show visitors some of the plans for the redevelopment of the south end galleries and talk about our the aims for the project.  Read more…
