Remembering the past is a series of free events for older people where you can enjoy a nostalgic look back at the past with our Visitor Hosts. Each session has a different theme and everyone is welcome to pop in for a cup of tea and a chat.
You can come on your own and make new friends or bring a friend with you. There’s no need to book and refreshments are free so drop in and join us. If you want to speak to us ahead of your visit, call our education team on 0151 478 4143.
Visitor Hosts Emma and Jill have run similar events at the Museum of Liverpool and World Museum since 2014 and are looking forward to meeting some new faces at the new sessions at the Lady Lever Art Gallery.
Visitor Host Emma Furness says:
“Our events for older visitors focus on memory sharing and social interaction. Visitors can chat to each other or a member of the team who are always on hand to help evoke memories and encourage interaction. Previous visitors have been of all ages and it’s lovely to see grandparents engaging with the younger generation in a similar way mine did with me.
I really enjoy working as part of a team to deliver these sessions and especially like listening to visitor stories, which make you laugh, cry and sometimes blush. My colleague Jill particularly enjoyed a story she was told about a box of OMO which if you’d like to hear, you’ll have to ask us about during one of our sessions!
We have a variety of handling objects which we use during each session including games, books, old TV clips or themed newsreels and lots of images. Another of my favourite things to do with visitors is play Guess the 50s Movie star!”
Join friendly Visitor Hosts Emma Furness and Jill Ireland for the monthly ‘Remembering the past’ sessions at the Lady Lever Art Gallery on Friday 2 December, 11am – 1pm.
We look forward to meeting you soon.
