The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is #BeBoldForChange and the programme of events across National Museums Liverpool’s venues, starting this weekend, explores this challenge through the lives of real women, past and present.

‘Lady Hamilton as a Bacchante’ by Elisabth-Louise Vigée Le Brun at Lady Lever Art Gallery

At the Museum of Liverpool we are exploring the collections to uncover the most courageous and inspirational Liverpool women; the Walker Art Gallery will be revealing the female artists whose lives and work have all too often been forgotten in the annals of art history; we celebrate the opportunities now open to women who are seeking a career at sea at the Merseyside Maritime Museum; we take a look at the remarkable life of Lady Emma Hamilton at the Lady Lever Art Gallery, and at the International Slavery Museum we’re extremely excited to be getting a visit by gal-dem, an online creative magazine composed of more than 70 women.

From crafts and workshops, to talks and tours, check out the website for full listings, and enjoy an inspirational, motivating and enlightening International Women’s Day!
