We have recently added some fantastic new items to our community case in the Tales from the city exhibition. This case enables us to reveal LGBT+ stories not represented in the exhibition, which people contact us about and would like to share.

The items were very kindly loaned by Emma and Ann Miller-McCaffrey and tell the story of their relationship.  Read more…

A memory suitcase for Liverpool’s LGBT+ community!

Through our House of Memories dementia awareness programme we aim to show people how to deliver a positive quality of life experience for people living with dementia.

There are thought to be more than 800,000 people in the UK living with dementia, each person with their own individual story, background, relationships, and care requirements.

As part of our memory suitcase loan service you can borrow a suitcase filled with images and objects to help you deliver a reminiscence session with someone living with dementia. By recognising that each person has an individual story we felt it was vitally important to offer a range of suitcases to reflect different experiences and lives lived.

Working on the Pride and Prejudice project I did a lot of reminiscence work with older LGBT+ people, hearing their fantastic stories and finding out what life was like in the city for them. I realised how important it was for there to be a dedicated LGBT+ memory suitcase that the community could loan.  Read more…

We commemorate the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality this week with the opening of the exhibition Coming Out: Sexuality, Gender and Identity at the Walker Art Gallery. The exhibition brings together a diverse range of artists who have used their work to explore sexuality and gender identity since 1967. Read more…

National Museums Liverpool has Pride!

I remember my first Liverpool Pride, back in 2010. I was finishing off my university year and I stumbled across it quite by accident. Needless to say I had an amazing time and funnily enough I will be having another Pride first this year.

On Saturday, for the first time ever, National Museums Liverpool will have a stall at Liverpool Pride where we’ll be showcasing the work we’ve been carrying out as part of our Pride and Prejudice project. Read more…

This Saturday, 1 August, the annual Liverpool Pride festival takes place celebrating the city’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities (LGBT).

Liverpool Pride takes on a different theme every year and now, at its sixth annual event, in 2015 focuses on ‘Love Is No Crime’. Read more…
